Description

This distinguished medal group consists of the Australian Active Service Medal (AASM) with the ICAT Clasp, the Afghanistan Medal, the Australian Defence Medal (ADM), and the NATO Medal with the ISAF Clasp, all court mounted for wear.

The Australian Active Service Medal is awarded for active service in designated warlike operations. The ICAT (International Campaign Against Terrorism) Clasp signifies participation in operations against terrorism under specific conditions. This clasp can be awarded to members who have served in operations in designated areas, such as Afghanistan, during the campaign against international terrorism.

The Afghanistan Medal is an Australian military award that recognises service by Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel in Afghanistan. The award covers various operations and is bestowed upon individuals who have completed a minimum period of service within the area of operations.

The Australian Defence Medal (ADM) is awarded to Australian Defence Force personnel who have efficiently completed either an initial enlistment period or four years of service, whichever is the lesser. It recognises the commitment and contribution of ADF personnel, including Reserve members.

The NATO Medal with the ISAF Clasp is an international military decoration awarded to military personnel who have participated in various North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) operations, in this case, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. The ISAF Clasp indicates service with the ISAF mission in Afghanistan under NATO command.

Together, these medals acknowledge a range of service commitments and contributions, from active engagement in warlike operations to long-term dedication to the Australian Defence Force. They are a fitting tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of our service men and women.

Unmounted Medals

If you order your medal unmounted, the medal and ribbon will be supplied as separate components. Miniature medals will be supplied with 15cm of ribbon and full size medals will be supplied with 30cm of ribbon.

The court mounting of medals involves securing medals to a stiff backing board, along with the placement of a brooch fitting on the board. This ensures that the medals remain firmly in place and do not shift or move about while being worn.

It is mandatory for active members of the Australian Defence Force to have their medals court mounted, as it is considered the appropriate method of presenting military honours in a professional and respectful manner. By doing so, the medals are given proper recognition and are displayed in a neat and organized fashion.

Afghanistan Active Service + NATO (ISAF) Set Full Size Swing Mounted

The swing mounting of medals refers to the attachment of a medal to a ribbon that is allowed to hang freely from a brooch, which in turn is affixed to a uniform or clothing. This mounting style was commonly used for medals from the Boer War up to and including World War II, although there are no fixed guidelines or regulations regarding its use.

A ribbon bar is a small, rectangular display of ribbons worn on military uniforms to represent various honours and awards earned by the wearer. Ribbon bars are a compact and convenient way for military personnel to display their achievements and are often used in situations where a full-sized medal or award would be impractical.
