The meaning of the Last Post
The Last Post began as a simple bugle call marking the end of a soldier's day. Over time it became something far greater. Today it is heard at Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services and at military funerals across Australia, played after the Ode of Remembrance and before a minute's silence.
In that silence we remember all Australians who have served and died in wars, conflicts and peace operations. The call tells us the day is done and that they have gone to their final rest. In Canberra it is sounded every evening at the Australian War Memorial's Last Post Ceremony, where the story of one person on the Roll of Honour is told.
The 2026 coin, designed by Lydia Ashe, shows a bugler before a war memorial at sundown. Bars of music radiate outward like sound waves, echoing the setting sun, and musical rests mark the silence that follows. Memorial steps ground the design, the words "The Last Post" and "Remembrance" follow the rim, and twilight oranges and purples complete the colour print. It follows the Mint's Dawn Service coin of April 2026.
Proof or uncirculated?
Silver proof: struck in 8.55 g of 99.99% silver to the Mint's proof standard, presented in a capsule and presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. Maximum mintage 10,000.
Uncirculated: struck to the Mint's uncirculated finish in a capsule and presentation card. Maximum mintage 100,000.
Both carry the 'C' mintmark for Canberra, where they are struck. A version without the mintmark will also be released into circulation; the coins in our packs are the collector editions.

FAQs
When do the 2026 Last Post coins go on sale?
At 08:30 AEDT on Tuesday 10 November 2026, the general release date set by the Royal Australian Mint. Tap [Notify Me] on any pack to receive an email the moment it goes live.
How many coins were made?
The Royal Australian Mint has set a maximum mintage of 100,000 for the 'C' mintmark uncirculated coin and 10,000 for the silver proof. Military Shop has 390 packs in total.
What is the difference between the proof and uncirculated coin?
The proof is struck in 8.55 g of 99.99% silver to the Mint's proof standard and comes in a presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The uncirculated coin comes in a presentation card. Both carry the 'C' mintmark and the same Last Post design.
What does the 'C' mintmark mean?
The 'C' shows the coin was struck in Canberra at the Royal Australian Mint. It appears only on the collector editions, not on the version released into circulation.
Is there a limit on how many packs I can buy?
No. There are no order limits, but stock is limited to 390 packs and each pack is available only while stock lasts.
When will my order ship?
Orders are dispatched within two business days of the 10 November release, by Australia Post standard or express.
Why is the Last Post played?
It began as the bugle call ending a soldier's day. At commemorative services it is played after the Ode of Remembrance and before a minute's silence, to honour those who have served and died.
