Established in 1988, the Air Force Aerial Achievement Medal aims to recognize Air Force personnel who are not qualified for the Air Medal but have consistently demonstrated exceptional performance in aerial flight that goes beyond standard expectations. The award is also applicable to operators of unmanned aircraft. This medal can be awarded to serving and civilian personnel.
Design
The medal is a bronze circular shape, with an eagle with spread wings in the centre. Above the eagle is a string of stars, and three crossed lightning bolts beneath.
Ribbon
The accompanying silk ribbon has a light blue base and is framed on both sides by an inner stripe of golden yellow and an outer stripe of navy-blue.
If you order your medal unmounted, the medal and ribbon will be supplied as separate components. Miniature medals will be supplied with 15cm of ribbon and full size medals will be supplied with 30cm of ribbon.
The court mounting of medals involves securing medals to a stiff backing board, along with the placement of a brooch fitting on the board. This ensures that the medals remain firmly in place and do not shift or move about while being worn.
