Q. Why was the Gallipoli Campaign mounted?
A. The Gallipoli Campaign was mounted in an attempt to seize a strategic advantage in the war. The intent was to seize control of the Dardanelle Strait and capture the Ottoman capital of Constantinople to force Turkey out of the war and open a supply route to Russia.
