Q.   Did the men who landed spend their entire time on the peninsula?

A.   In September 1915 units of the 1st Division, including the survivors of units that had been involved in the horrendous battle at Lone Pine, were withdrawn from the peninsula to rest camps on the Greek island of Lemnos, site of the MEF Intermediate Base. On Lemnos the men were put on double rations and allowed to rest, with only the very lightest of training carried out. After a rest period of just over a month, the men returned to Gallipoli.
