2024 Gallipoli Scholarship Fund Awards: Honouring Legacy, Empowering Scholars

The 2024 Gallipoli Scholarship Fund Awards, held in Canberra, marked a significant chapter in the Scholarship’s 26-year legacy. With thirty-three Scholarships bestowed, the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund now boasts an Alumni exceeding 200 Gallipoli Scholars.

The ceremony commenced with a Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial, where attendees paid solemn tribute to the enduring ANZAC legacy. Following this solemn remembrance, Scholars and guests proceeded to Government House where the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund’s Patrons, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, hosted the event and presented awards to the Scholars accompanied by donors.

Heartfelt addresses by the Governor-General and former Gallipoli Scholars illuminated the profound impact of the Scholarships in shaping young minds and fostering a deep appreciation for our nation’s history and values.

A moment of special recognition was reserved for Jan Hartmann, retiring Chair of the Scholar Selection Sub-committee, acknowledging her tireless dedication and invaluable contributions to the Scholarship’s success.

The evening concluded with an informal supper, fostering connections and camaraderie among Scholars and guests, further enriching the sense of community cultivated by the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund.
The following morning, Gallipoli Scholars visited the Australian War Memorial, where they had discussions with the Director, Matt Anderson PSM, and were provided a guided tour of the Memorial. The event was well summarised by one of the Scholars, who on departure texted with the simple message: “Thank you so much. The last two days have been amazing. It is very clear that the Gallipoli Scholarship is far more than just a university scholarship!”
