The King George VI Coronation Medal was issued in 1937 to commemorate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, held on 12 May 1937 at Westminster Abbey. The medal was presented to members of the Royal Family, dignitaries, military personnel, and officials who took part in the coronation celebrations across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
Awarded in silver to individuals selected by government and military authorities for their role in the coronation ceremonies or for distinguished public service. Recipients included members of the armed forces, police, civil service, and representatives of public organisations.
The circular silver medal features the crowned effigies of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth facing left on the obverse. The reverse displays the royal cypher of King George VI above the date of the coronation, surrounded by a decorative wreath.
The ribbon is purple with narrow silver stripes at each edge, symbolising dignity, royalty, and the solemnity of the coronation occasion.

A ribbon bar is a small, rectangular display of ribbons worn on military uniforms to represent various honours and awards earned by the wearer. These ribbons are arranged in a specific order and are attached to a backing, which is then attached to the uniform. Ribbon bars are a compact and convenient way for military personnel to display their achievements and are often used in situations where a full-sized medal or award would be impractical.
