The Crossing the Line ceremony has its origins in the deep annals of maritime history, dating back to a time when sailors believed that crossing the equator was a perilous journey. It was believed that Neptune, the god of the sea, resided beneath these waters. To ensure safe passage, sailors conducted elaborate rituals to appease him.
