Q.   What was "Shrapnel Valley"?
A.   "Shrapnel Valley" was the name given to the valley that ran from the beach at Hell Spit up into the hills above the beach; it was the main route up from the beach area to the Anzac frontline and led to various hotly contested positions such as Quinn’s, Courtney’s and Steele’s Posts. Despite the constant danger of death or wounding from shrapnel, machine gun fire or sniper’s bullet, Shrapnel Valley was busy night and day with men and animals coming and going.
