Description

The UNTSO UN Truce Supervision Organization Medal is an esteemed international award, established in 1948 by the United Nations. This medal honors the service of military observers, civilian police, and civilian personnel who have served in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). The mission's mandate is to assist and cooperate with other United Nations peacekeeping operations in the region to maintain peace and security.

Eligibility for the UNTSO UN Truce Supervision Organization Medal includes the following:

  • Service as a military observer, civilian police officer, or civilian personnel in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization.
  • A minimum of 90 days of service in the mission.

The 35-millimeter-diameter circular medal is made of bronze. The obverse displays the emblem of the United Nations: a map of the world, encircled by olive branches, symbolizing peace. The reverse carries the inscription 'IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE'.

The accompanying ribbon, 35 millimeters wide, features a central stripe of United Nations blue flanked by two thinner stripes of white, which are themselves bordered by two wider stripes of United Nations blue. These colors represent the United Nations' role in establishing and maintaining peace.

Unmounted Medals

If you order your medal unmounted, the medal and ribbon will be supplied as separate components. Miniature medals will be supplied with 15cm of ribbon and full size medals will be supplied with 30cm of ribbon.

The court mounting of medals involves securing medals to a stiff backing board, along with the placement of a brooch fitting on the board. This ensures that the medals remain firmly in place and do not shift or move about while being worn.

It is mandatory for active members of the Australian Defence Force to have their medals court mounted, as it is considered the appropriate method of presenting military honours in a professional and respectful manner. By doing so, the medals are given proper recognition and are displayed in a neat and organized fashion.

UNTSO UN Truce Supervision Organization Medal Ribbon Bar

A ribbon bar is a small, rectangular display of ribbons worn on military uniforms to represent various honours and awards earned by the wearer. These ribbons are arranged in a specific order and are attached to a backing, which is then attached to the uniform. Ribbon bars are a compact and convenient way for military personnel to display their achievements and are often used in situations where a full-sized medal or award would be impractical.
