The Urbenville RSL Sub-Branch received a grant worth $1,085 from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. It has since installed a plinth and a plaque at the Urbenville Public School to commemorate those who served in the Great War.

The memorial will remind students of the wartime service of people from Urbenville, like Private Robert Alexander Muggleton.

Muggleton was a 42-year-old farmer who enlisted on 16 November 1916. He served with the 36th Battalion on the Western Front and was one of the lucky ones. He returned to Australia on 19 October 1918, married and lived to the ripe old age of 80.
