He was listed as wounded in action on 17 June 1915 at Gallipoli but survived the war, returned home in 1919 and went on to become a leading politician in New South Wales.

Sir Michael Frederick Bruxner lived at Tenterfield and in 1907 opened his own stock and station agency, Bruxner & Cotton. When he retired from politics in 1962 he was awarded a knighthood within the Order of the British Empire.

Stories such as Sir Michael’s and others with Great War service are now accessible thanks to the Tenterfield Shire Council, which received a $3,500 grant from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to purchase five touch screen monitors for sites in Tenterfield, Drake, Liston and Steinbrook.

The screens are part of an interactive display of stories and memorabilia honouring the men and women from the district who served during the Great War.
