A Republic of Singapore Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker positioned itself to sling fuel at a RAAF C-17A Globemaster during air-to-air refuelling trials in November 2015.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force deployed the KC-135 Stratotanker to RAAF Base Amberley to conduct air-to-air refuelling training with a Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster from No. 36 Squadron.

The purpose of the training was to build experience in the air-to-air refuelling role for 36SQN C-17A crews before the commencement of refuelling trials between a RAAF KC-30A Multi-Role Tanker Transport and C-17A in 2016.

Air-to-air refuelling significantly increases the range and payload of the receiver aircraft.

In the case of the C-17A, air-to-air refuelling would enable the aircraft to fly intercontinental distances with payloads up to 70 tonnes.
