The Centenary of the March of the Dungarees war proudly commemorated on 16 November 2015. This historic event began as a recruitment march in Warwick, Queensland in 1915 and continued through Allora, Clifton, Greenmount, Cambooya, Toowoomba, Helidon, Gatton, Laidley, Rosewood, Ipswich, eventually finishing in Brisbane.

As they passed through each town the number of recruits grew, starting with 28 men and finishing with 125 as they marched through the streets of Brisbane. Overall the recruits travelled 160 miles (257 kms).

Below are a series of images from State Library of Queensland’s collection documenting the March of the Dungarees.
