Local Government is showing remarkable leadership in national efforts to commemorate the Anzac Centenary, continuing a proud history dating back to the Great War itself. The Anzac Centenary provides a rare opportunity to foster civic values and recognise the ongoing sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women. The needs of veterans and their families mustn’t be forgotten during the centenary.

Some honourable mentions of Local Councils working to commemorate the Anzac Centenary include:

Logan Council - Honouring Indigenous Diggers:

Logan Council has created a historical record called "Black Diggers of Logan". The project involves digitising stories, photographs, letters and historical items for display at the Logan Library. It will ensure the service of local Indigenous Anzacs is remembered.

Corangamite Council - Restoring Local Memorials:

Corangamite Council has restored three local memorials for the Anzac Centenary. It is significantly restoring sites at Camperdown, Derrinallum and Cobden. The Council will redevelop the area surrounding the Cobden site to make it easier for local residents to connect with the Anzac Spirit.

Penrith Council - Partnering With Local RSL:

Penrith Council has partnered with the local RSL to restore the Pavilion Memorial. The foundation stone was laid on 25 February 1922 by the Penrith Mayor. The memorial has withstood weathering and "concrete cancer" and is in dire need of repair. Penrith Council has played a leading role in ensuring the Pavilion stands to see another century.
