Honouring the End of WWII with the 2025 $2 Poppy Wreath Coins
Eighty years after peace was finally declared, the Royal Australian Mint has released a new $2 coin design honouring the courage, loss and resilience of Australians during the Second World War.
These stunning 2025 $2 Proof and Uncirculated Poppy Wreath coins feature eight red poppies — one for each decade since the guns fell silent — surrounded by sculpted leaves symbolising remembrance and renewal.
At Military Shop, we’ve secured limited stock of both versions and are offering them exclusively as part of our commemorative bundles with select collectables and gifts — the perfect way to remember and to share the legacy of service.
About the Design & Commemoration
The coin design pays tribute to Australia’s contribution to the Allied victory and to those who never came home.
- The wreath of eight poppies represents eight decades since the war’s end.
- The ‘C’ mintmark denotes Canberra, where every coin is struck with precision.
- The obverse carries Daniel Thorne’s effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, marking a new chapter in Commonwealth history.
- Behind every element is a story of service, sacrifice and national pride — captured forever in fine metal.
The Royal Australian Mint’s official theme, “80 Years On: Remembering the Second World War,” reflects on how the conflict reshaped our nation and the world. The poppy, already an enduring emblem of remembrance, now symbolises peace hard-won and never forgotten.
Proof vs UNC – What’s the Difference?
Both coins share the same design but differ in finish and collectability:
- Proof Coin (Fine Silver Proof):
Struck in 99.9% fine silver (8.55 g), the Proof version features mirror-polished fields and frosted relief, presented in a display case with numbered certificate. Limited to 10,000 coins worldwide.
- Uncirculated Coin (AlBr):
Minted to an uncirculated standard (6.60 g aluminium-bronze) and packaged in a presentation card, with a mintage of 100,000.
Collectors often acquire both — Proof for prestige, UNC for everyday display.
