Description

The Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) is a prestigious award given to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel who have demonstrated outstanding devotion to duty, leadership, or service in a position of responsibility. The CSC recognizes individuals who have displayed exemplary conduct, outstanding professionalism, and sustained commitment in their duties, which have made a significant contribution to the ADF or the broader Australian community.

Eligibilty

The CSC is awarded to ADF members who have shown conspicuous devotion to duty or outstanding leadership qualities that have had a significant impact on their unit, organization, or the ADF as a whole. The award is also given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Australian community or international relations through their service in non-warlike situations.

Design

The CSC features a midified silver Maltese cross, which depicts the Southern Cross surrounded by a laurel wreath. The reverse has a nameplate, typically engraved with the recipient's details. Copies are engraved with "Replica".

Ribbon

The accompanying ribbon has alternating stripes of dark green and sand-gold, running diagonally from the top left to bottom right of the ribbon.

Lapel Pin

The CSC is represented in day to day use by a small pin worn on the lapel. Purchase a replica pin here: CSC Lapel.

The CSC is a highly respected award that recognizes the exceptional service and dedication of ADF personnel. It is awarded by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Minister for Defence. Recipients receive a citation that outlines the specific actions or contributions that led to the award. The CSC is a symbol of the Australian Defence Force's appreciation for the outstanding service and devotion to duty of its members.

Unmounted Medals

If you order your medal unmounted, the medal and ribbon will be supplied as separate components. Miniature medals will be supplied with 15cm of ribbon and full size medals will be supplied with 30cm of ribbon.

Conspicuous Service Cross Full Size Court Mounted

The court mounting of medals involves securing medals to a stiff backing board, along with the placement of a brooch fitting on the board. This ensures that the medals remain firmly in place and do not shift or move about while being worn.

It is mandatory for active members of the Australian Defence Force to have their medals court mounted, as it is considered the appropriate method of presenting military honours in a professional and respectful manner. By doing so, the medals are given proper recognition and are displayed in a neat and organized fashion.

Conspicuous Service Cross Full Size Swing Mounted

The swing mounting of medals refers to the attachment of a medal to a ribbon that is allowed to hang freely from a brooch, which in turn is affixed to a uniform or clothing. This mounting style was commonly used for medals from the Boer War up to and including World War II, although there are no fixed guidelines or regulations regarding its use.

Conspicuous Service Cross Miniature Court Mounted

Miniature Court Mounted medals are mounted using the same method as Full size medals, yet they are typically worn to ceremonies were wearing full size medals would be impractical. These medals are commonly worn to all ceremonies that take place after 6 pm such as dinners.

Conspicuous Service Cross Ribbon Bar

A ribbon bar is a small, rectangular display of ribbons worn on military uniforms to represent various honours and awards earned by the wearer. These ribbons are arranged in a specific order and are attached to a backing, which is then attached to the uniform. Ribbon bars are a compact and convenient way for military personnel to display their achievements and are often used in situations where a full-sized medal or award would be impractical.
