The Air Efficiency Award was instituted in 1942 to recognise long and efficient service by part-time officers and airmen of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and the Air Force Reserve. The George VI version was awarded from 1942 until 1952 and is distinguished by the King’s effigy on the obverse.
Awarded to commissioned officers and non-commissioned members of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and eligible Commonwealth air forces who completed a minimum of ten years of efficient part-time service. Wartime service was counted as double towards the qualifying period.
The oval silver medal features the crowned effigy of King George VI on the obverse with the inscription GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP:. The reverse depicts an eagle in flight encircled by a laurel wreath, symbolising skill, vigilance, and service. The medal is suspended from an eagle-shaped bar.
The ribbon is dark green with a central light grey stripe, representing the colours of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and the commitment of its members.
SPECIFICATIONS:If you order your medal unmounted, the medal and ribbon will be supplied as separate components. Miniature medals will be supplied with 15cm of ribbon and full size medals will be supplied with 30cm of ribbon.
