The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Dan Tehan has paid tribute to Legacy for its important work supporting families of veterans.

Mr Tehan laid a wreath during a ceremony at the Australian War Memorial to mark the launch of Legacy Week (28 August to 3 September).

Legacy Week is an iconic nationwide fundraising campaign which began in 1942 during the Second World War.

"Legacy is a non-profit organisation established by the ex-service community that is well known for the comfort it provides grieving families," Mr Tehan said.

"Legacy has made a real difference to the lives of thousands of families who have lost someone who served our country."

"It is important work and another way Australia honours the service and sacrifice of the men and women who defend our country."

The Australian Government and Legacy share a common goal in providing the best possible care and support to ex-serving members of the ADF and their families.

Donations help support educational activities for children through contributions to school fees, books, uniforms and other activities.

For more information on Legacy, including where to buy a badge, to donate or volunteer to collect, call 1800 534 229 or visit their website here.
