“It’s a bold new look that is about fashion, technology, fun and function.” That is how the new range of Navy-branded summer season casuals and sports clothing is being described.

The Royal Australian Navy’s official shop SALT has a new clothing range that features the latest in sports materials and styling and is available to Navy personnel, Navy families and others who just want to wear something that celebrates being Australian.

Lindsey Davie, of Canberra based design company BrandNet, coordinated the new range for SALT, and believes the styling will not only be a hit with people associated with Navy but also others who just want standout fashion.

“The Navy brand is unique in that it presents a wonderful balance of modern style and tradition,” she said. “For people associated with Navy it is a powerful reinforcement and demonstration of their pride in the Royal Australian Navy and the people who serve, but for others it is almost a bold fashion statement that simple looks fantastic.”

The new range of sports cloths includes cool-dry fabrics in men’s and women’s singlets and tees and feature the bold use of “Navy” emblazoned across the chest.

More traditional pieces, such as the polo shirts and ties carry the actual Royal Australian Navy brand and would more likely suit only those with a personal or family link to service.

The collection also features new baseball caps, sleeveless windbreakers, a beanie and sports bags.

Lindsey believes the new range is a perfect extension of the original designs created SALT, which are also still available, although in some cases the stocks have long run out.

“It is about evolving a brand rather than a radical departure from something that is already popular and effective,” she said. “The new look is very fresh and very new, yet it is in keeping with what people expect of a brand as important as Navy.”
