The Albanese Labor Government continues to enhance access to Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) services through the introduction of Digital Veteran Cards on the myGov app.

Nearly 300,000 Veteran Card holders can now conveniently add their veteran Gold or White card to the myGov app's digital wallet.

The myGov app's digital wallet offers a secure means to store various government-issued cards and documents, including Medicare cards, Centrelink concession and health care cards, and the International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate.

Veteran Cards grant access to funded treatment for medical and mental health conditions, injuries, and other essential services and support.

Veterans using MyService with a linked myGov account can swiftly add their digital cards to the wallet and pin them to the myGov app's home screen for quick access.

"myGov app users have collectively stored over 1.2 million digital cards and certificates in the wallet—offering a secure and convenient option for managing these essential documents," says Minister For Government Services, Bill Shorten.

"Digital items in the wallet feature built-in protections such as holograms and QR codes to verify authenticity and validity, guarding against fraud and theft."

In addition to facilitating Veteran Card storage, MyService via the myGov app allows veterans to lodge claims, monitor claim progress, review accepted conditions, request treatment, arrange transportation, and more.

The 2024 Budget confirms myGov as Australia’s primary online gateway for government services, with substantial funding allocated for security upgrades and enhanced messaging capabilities.

DVA

The DVA commissioned the Military Shop to design and manufacture the Vietnam Commemorative Medallion in October 2022. In 2023, the Prime Minister on behalf of the nation launched a special Vietnam Commemorative Medallion to Honour our Vietnam Veterans. This medallion was available to all living veterans, widows of veterans, and other family members of veterans of the Vietnam War, with one medallion available per veteran. Read more about it here.

"We are committed to streamlining access to DVA services and supports through these updates, placing essential resources directly at your fingertips. I urge healthcare providers and service partners to recognise and accept digital cards where offered," says Minister For Veterans Affairs, Matt Keogh.

"MyService continues to evolve. Simplifying and enhancing online accessibility remains a key priority for DVA, with MyService now serving as the primary gateway for DVA transactions online."
