This ANZAC Day, RSL invites all Australians to unite safely to honour our nation’s veterans.
Light Up the Dawn was an idea which originated within the Australian community. The RSL supported and promoted the idea across Australia in a year of great challenge and change.
As the sun peeked above the horizon, the country stood united – in uniforms or pyjamas, wearing medals, poppies and sprigs of rosemary – to let Australia’s veterans know that their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Given the tremendous community response to this initiative, the RSL will again help Australians come together at 6am on 25 April – in their driveways, on their balconies, or in their living rooms – to commemorate Australia’s deeply held ANZAC traditions.
Show your support and bring your community together this Anzac Day by encouraging neighbours to help you Light Up the Dawn in your street.

To help you show your ANZAC Spirit, the RSL has engaged the Military Shop to develop a range of commemorative items. For convenience, these are available separately, or as two ready-to-go packs. All items in the range will financially assist the RSL to support our veterans.

The Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL) was founded in 1916 to ensure a unified approach to address the lack of organised repatriation facilities and medical services available to those returning from service in the Great War. This included looking out for the families of those comrades who did not return, and arose out of discussions at a meeting in June 1916 of the Returned Soldiers Associations from QLD, NSW, SA and Victoria.
This ethos of compassion and service remains today as the motivating influence of the League. The core mission has never changed and has continued to evolve to meet the needs of each generation of servicemen and women.
RSL advocates for the best possible conditions for our serving men and women and for those who have served the Nation in the past. RSL fosters respect and thanks from the Nation for all those who have made sacrifices in Australia’s name and provides a strong voice on issues of National unity and security.
Your donation to the Anzac Appeal allows the RSL to tailor specialist services to the needs of our current and former service men and women, and their families.
